Haggis in Japan
About me
I’ve spent years traveling the world, but nowhere has felt more like home—yet still full of surprises—than Japan. Growing up in the north of Scotland as a classic Pokémon kid, I never imagined that my first trip to Japan in 2018 would change everything. I fell in love with the food, the culture, the people, and the unique rhythm of life here. Now, I get to share all of that with you.
Traveling with me isn’t just about ticking off the ‘must-see’ spots—it’s about experiencing Japan like a local. We’ll dive into every aspect of the culture, from incredible food and drink to stunning temples and shrines, and, of course, the wonderfully weird and quirky side of the country.
Along the way, I’ll teach you local customs, handy language tips, and take you to the best hidden gems I’ve discovered—so you can truly experience the magic of Japan. Let’s make some unforgettable memories together! 😊
Guests have described me as ‘incredibly fun’, ‘highly organised’ and ‘on a whole other level as a guide’ - totally blushing here, but their words, not mine. 🤷♂️ (Read the reviews here)
Ever since I started exploring Japan, I’ve been on a constant hunt for the best and most unique spots to share with you. From tiny ramen shops tucked away in Tokyo’s alleys to hidden gems in rural Japan, each tour I lead is built on years of discovery—refining my knowledge and uncovering new treasures along the way.
Solo travellers, couples, friends, families—I’ve guided them all. No matter your situation, you’ll meet amazing like-minded explorers and make lifelong memories. We also set up a WhatsApp group before the tour to connect, ask questions, and get excited!
In 11 unforgettable days, we’ll dive into Tokyo’s electric energy, wander historic Kamakura, and escape to the mountains of Takayama. Ride the bullet train to Kyoto’s ancient temples, explore Nara’s history (and the deer), and end in Osaka, my favourite city—buzzing with the most amazing food, nightlife, and excitement. This is Japan at its best! 🚀🇯🇵

Welcome to Tokyo—let the adventure begin! 🇯🇵✨
I’m available all day to help with arrivals. Hotel check-in is at 3 PM in the scenic Asakusa district—arrive early to explore or relax.
In the evening, we’ll meet in the lobby, say hello, and head to one of my favourite restaurants for a delicious welcome dinner. Then, we’ll dive into Asakusa’s magic with a guided night tour, including the stunning Senso-ji Temple, Tokyo’s oldest and most iconic! 🌙🏮
Start the day with a fun Japan quiz (yes, it’s actually fun!)—we’ll learn Japanese etiquette and key cultural do’s & don’ts, plus a prize for the winner!
Then, we’ll visit Meiji Shrine in Yoyogi Park, honouring the emperor who shaped modern Japan.
A short walk takes us to Shibuya Crossing, one of the busiest in the world! Snap a pic with the famous dog Hachiko, then grab epic rooftop views of the chaos below.
After some free time, we hit Akihabara at night—arcades, maid cafes, quirky shops, bars with darts & beer pong, and karaoke with locals! 🎤🔥
Start the day learning the art of sushi with a master Japanese chef, crafting fresh, delicious bites with some of the world’s best seafood.
The afternoon is yours—explore Tokyo at your own pace with Craig’s top recommendations.
As the sun sets, we’ll take in epic city views from the 46th floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Building, then dive into the buzzing alleyways of Omoide Yokocho (Piss Alley) for an authentic, old-school Tokyo dining experience.
But the night doesn’t stop there! We’ll explore the electric streets of Shinjuku, see Godzilla towering above the skyline, and experience Tokyo’s wild nightlife—ending in Golden Gai, where 200+ tiny bars create the ultimate neon-lit adventure. 🚀🍻✨
Today, we escape Tokyo and head to the stunning seaside town of Kamakura, the birthplace of Japan’s first Shogun!
Our first stop is Hase-Dera, my favourite temple in Japan, with serene gardens, stunning views, and ancient halls. Then, we’ll visit Kotoku-in Temple to stand in awe of the 13-meter Great Buddha, Japan’s second-largest.
Next, we’ll stroll the Dankazura Walkway, a gorgeous tree-lined path leading to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, Kamakura’s most important shrine.
For free time, explore the bustling Komachi-Dori, packed with unique souvenirs, street food, and local coffee shops —or even sneak off to the beach!
In the evening, we’ll head back to Tokyo, ready to pack for tomorrow’s next adventure! 🚄✨
This morning, we take it easy as we gear up for our first big travel day!—and what better way to do it than riding the legendary Shinkansen Bullet Train. Watch the Japanese countryside race by as we speed north to Takayama, a charming, traditional town nestled in the mountains of Gifu Prefecture.
Once we’ve checked into our 4-star hotel, we’ll head out to savour Takayama’s renowned Hida Beef—a melt-in-your-mouth delicacy that rivals Kobe beef and a must-try while visiting!
In the evening, unwind like the Japanese do—relax in a local Onsen (hot spring bathhouse), take a peaceful stroll through Takayama’s beautifully preserved streets, or simply rest up for another exciting day ahead! 🌿🍶✨
Get ready for a packed day in Takayama, a town bursting with history, culture, and adventure! We’ll start the morning with a peaceful prayer session led by a local Buddhist monk in a serene temple. Then, we’ll explore the Miyagawa Morning Market, where you can sample fresh local treats for breakfast and pick up one-of-a-kind souvenirs—like personalised chopsticks made from the wood of the region!

We’ll leave Takayama behind and hop on the Shinkansen to Kyoto, Japan’s former capital. Once we arrive, we’ll take a stroll through the atmospheric streets, getting familiar with our new home for the next three nights.
In the evening, we’ll explore the historic Gion district, known for its traditional streets and Geisha culture. If we’re lucky, we might even spot a Geisha on her way to work! 🎎
But rest up and get to bed early because….
Rise and shine—today is our first full day in Kyoto!
We’ll start off with a walk through one of Kyoto’s largest cemeteries before arriving at Kiyomizu-dera, a breathtaking World Heritage Site. Then we’ll head down the chaotic and beautiful Sannenzaka street to our very own Japanese Kimono spot, you can choose your favourite colour to rent for the day and we’ll head to an authentic Japanese tea house for a traditional tea ceremony, learning the beautiful customs behind this ancient art. Afterward, the afternoon is yours—grab a matcha ice cream, explore Kyoto’s charming streets for unique souvenirs, or chill out in the kimonos.
In the evening we’ll meet back up or a sunset visit to Fushimi Inari Shrine, home to the 10,000 Torii gates. With no crowds, we’ll have this iconic spot almost to ourselves as we explore, snap incredible photos, and learn the legends behind the shrine. Up for a challenge? Hike to the top and pray to the deity there.
But keep some energy because tonight is Karaoke night! We’re heading to my favourite karaoke bar in Japan for a wild night of singing, laughing, and making unforgettable memories with each other and the locals. Get ready for a legendary Kyoto experience!
After we get our voices back from last night we’ll jump on the train to Arashiyama, where we’ll wander through the Bamboo Forest then make some new friends at Monkey Mountain! There are over 100 Japanese snow monkeys at the top waiting to say hi! A bit of free time to grab lunch and do some last minute Kyoto shopping before we head to Osaka!—my favourite city in Japan!
We’ll check in and head out for a delicious family dinner at one of my favourite local spots. Then soak in the vibrant lights of Osaka before we call it a night. 🌆
For our final full day in Japan, we’re kicking things off with a trip to Nara, Japan’s first capital and home to the famous bowing deer! You’ll hear the story of how these sacred animals became part of the city and explore some of Japan’s most stunning temples. With plenty of time to wander Nara Park, you can even grab some deer crackers and make a few furry friends.
Next, we’re off to Osaka Castle for some iconic photos and an optional climb to the top. The afternoon is yours to explore Osaka’s incredible shopping scene, from quirky finds to high-end fashion and vintage.
Then, we wrap up the trip in the best way possible—a legendary food and drink crawl through the neon-lit streets of Dotonbori! You’ll discover why Osaka is called the “Kitchen of Japan” as we hit up the best local food spots. The activities might end here, but for those who aren’t ready to say goodbye, Osaka’s nightlife is just getting started—Craig’s got all the top recommendations for an unforgettable final night! 🎉 🍢
And just like that, our incredible adventure comes to an end. 🥲
We’ll gather for one last breakfast to share stories from last night and relive our favorite moments from the trip. Then, it’s time for goodbye. Craig will be around to help with onward travel and any advice for those staying in Japan a little longer.

Testimonials
The tour starts in Tokyo and finishes in Osaka. So I recommend flying into Tokyo (any airport) and out of Osaka (any airport) I’ll advise you on how to navigate them to the hotel closer to the time.
Yes! definitely try to arrive 1/2 days before to beat the jet lag. And definitely stay an extra 1/2 days in Osaka before heading home. It’s my favourite city with so much to do!
Absolutely! I am on hand every day from now and after the tour to help with any questions or advice on Japan related travel. Now and always ☺️
The tour is for absolutely everyone and anyone! But usually guests consist of:
Japan is a LOT of walking. So make sure you bring comfortable shoes and are ready to do 20,000+ steps a day. It’s the best way to see this beautiful country. - we also take the best public transportation in the world so make sure whatever luggage you have you’re comfortable carrying. Sometimes stairs might be our only option at a train station.
A suitcase is fine as long as you’re okay to carry it at certain points. A medium suitcase and a medium backpack would be ideal to split the weight of luggage.
For the 11 days on tour. £450 / €500 / $550 should be fine for some souvenirs and extra meals and drinks. If you’re looking to spend a bit more time in Japan then £1,000 / €1,200 / $1,500 I’d suggest. There’s a lot of amazing things to buy!
Yes! I give a decent amount of free time at every location for people to tick off their own bucket list things. I’ll also have a lot of suggestion for each place we go to help you plan your free time in advance.
I design custom tours for groups of 10+ crafted to your interests and preferences. Get in touch to find out more!
